"Escaping the city of Vancouver to adventure out into the desolate woods, I started reminiscing of the days growing up in Lake Tahoe. Being outdoors, surrounded by crystal clear water and green forests. This world is filled with hidden destinations spots, waiting to be explored upon."
Brandywine Falls is a spectacular 70-meter waterfall located in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada. With views of vast mountainous landscape, surrounding lakes and greenery, Tj Kolesnik and Nick Harborne adventured to the top and bottom of the falls to capture its true natural beauty.
Yet a mystery to some, the The term “Brandy” is actually short for “Brandywine,” which has a twist to how Brandywine Falls got its name. The most popular story / theory dates back to its founding in 1973, when Jack Nelson and Bob Mollison made an interesting bet over a bottle of Brandy. At the time, they were working as surveyors. The bet between the two consisted of who can accurately guess the height of the falls. Using only a chain for measurement, Mollison won the bottle of Brandy, therefore giving the name Brandywine Falls.
What an awesome story, right? It would only make sense to trek both the top and bottom of the falls to get the full expereince. During the expidition, he took along our best-selling Whiskey / Espresso Chrono to withstand the treacherous hike, the perfect adventure for the Alterra Chrono.
“The photos don’t do it justice. Any avid explorer out there who loves a thrilling adventure, seeing the falls in real time is a must. This won’t be my last time visiting.”
The morning of, we had been shooting video and photo content in the city for a few brands. Spontaneously, my buddy Nick Harborne (who I met the day before) said, “You want to just get away from the city and go shoot photos man?” Without hesitation, I said “Yes, 100%”
The windows were rolled down, sunroof was open, we were bumping some good tunes, letting the gears in our head turn with ideas. To our right, a luscious amount of green, moss, trees and shrub filled the mountains. To our left, crystal clear water glistened in the sunlight. It had been raining most of my time up there, so seeing the sun break through the clouds was a sight to see.
It took about an hour and a half to finally reach our destination. The views during our drive definitely reminded me of the days growing up in my hometown of Lake Tahoe. Beautiful nature everywhere. We had made it to Brandywine Falls.
Let’s just say the top of the falls didnt have an easy access point. We spent twenty minutes ducking under tree branches, sliding down the muddy mountian side and dodging lose rocks that stumbled down beside us. It was well worth it though.
Sometimes breathing in city air and feeling the cool breeze of air conditioning on the back of our necks doesn’t quite make us feel alive. Sometimes when we gaze out a window in an office we are finding ways to escape whatever space we are currently in, longing to discover new trails and blaze new paths. Sometimes we yearn to find ourselves on some untouched mountain peak or sightseeing green pastures far beyond where society can reach us. Sometimes we stop dreaming…and instead we start doing.
